A simple reformart and discard process will not be sufficient to ensure a secure disposal of your solid state drive. Instead, data needs to be encrypted or overwitten with random data while the physical drive is shredded.
Following the use of random data to overwrite the drive, data encryption can be used by encrypting the drive before discarding the key separately. The risk thereafter of a third party being able to decrypt the drive is minimal. In addition, the physical drive should be destroyed using industrial grade shredders.
